English Summary

PhotoCraft is an open-source photo editor written from scratch in pure Rust — a clean-room reimplementation of Adobe Photoshop. Layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, type, vectors, brushes: everything Photoshop does, rebuilt as a native, offline, open-source app. Public since late September 2026, it already has 61K stars.

• Photoshop-like by design: menus, shortcuts, panels and tools are where Photoshop users expect them, from ⌘J to ⇧⌘D; all 67 tools faithfully recreated;
• Real PSD files: open, edit and save layered PSDs — re-saving keeps renders matching Photoshop on 307 of 309 test files; also supports PSB, TIFF, OpenRaster, Krita .kra, Affinity docs and many more formats;
• Native and fast: GPU compositor on wgpu (Metal, Vulkan, DX12, WebGPU), copy-on-write tiles, multithreaded filters — no Electron, no web view; a radius-180 Gaussian blur on 3.6MP takes under a second;
• Agent-ready: every action is a command, drivable from the UI, CLI, a JSON control channel or an MCP server — AI can edit images with it too;
• Cross-platform: macOS, Windows, Linux, FreeBSD and Web (WebAssembly); dual-licensed MIT / Apache-2.0.

Still early alpha, but 16 adjustment layers, layer styles, smart selections (Select Subject runs locally, no cloud) and full history are already working. For anyone done with Adobe subscriptions who cares about privacy and open source, this is the Photoshop alternative to watch.
